My dear husband and I have had the itch for a Nintendo Wii since they came out. But we decided it was better for us to wait until he was finished with law school so that he didn't have the extra distraction. We sufficed by playing at (all) of our friends' houses who had them. That was until the government decided to stimulate the economy by sending people money to do so. Our plan was to use our stimulus check to pay off loans. That was the smartest way to use the check. And that was our plan. Until the check arrived and we went to Target to pick up general supplies. Mike walked down the gaming aisle and I knew it was all over. He had asked me if I thought it would be exciting if there was one there on the drive over but I dismissed it as silly "what if" talk. Not serious business. Oh was I wrong. For the remainder of the weekend he called every store in the area that would possibly carry them until he found one. The whole time he was calling I didn't believe that it was my husband on the phone. My husband, the one obsessed with finding a Wii. We had only been awake about 30 minutes on Sunday morning and all of a sudden he announced that we had to get out the door and head to Sears. "Sears. I knew no one would check at Sears." He was super proud of finding one. In fact they had 9 in stock. So we rushed over in case someone was planning on coming in to buy all 9 of them. We thought ours was in the bag but there was no way we were taking a chance. Imagine our shock when we found the aisle in Sears without any Wii's on the shelf. Heartbroken. But alas, they were keeping them stocked in the back. It must be one final trick to keep all of the Wii hunters on the tips of their toes, to make the purchase of one of these systems just that much more difficult. We spent 1.5 minutes waiting in the merchandise pick up area and the box was ours. Woo hoo! We didn't stick around any longer than necessary. The Sears we were at was across the street from the Home Depot that the DC snipers used for one of their shootings. Our mission once we pulled in was simple. Get in. Get Wii. Get out. Get home. And so we did.
My dear Wii hunter. I was so proud of you.
It all turned out to be good practice for this past weekend when one of my best friends came to visit Friday night and told Mike about how she's been looking for one too. He didn't waste any time Saturday morning when the stores opened up. He was on the phone and on the prowl again within minutes. Sears didn't come through again this time but he was victorious. Imagine my adoring love.
On our way to Burke, VA. Mariah got to see "the mixing bowl" of 95, 395, and 495 in Springfield, VA. Look at all that beautiful concrete. Yum.

Leaving the store with her big purchase. Sexy legs Mo!

Two other funny little things I remember from the weekend:
- Mike announcing that he is going to start a stipend to bus in my friends for the weekend to keep me happy.
- Mike asking if we ever used to say "Mariah, you're on fire!" to Mariah in high school. Um yeah, like every day.
